Air purifiers under $150 if you don't want to shell out for a Dyson

Air purifiers could not be more relevant than right now when we're all getting ready to hunker down inside until the spring. If you've been interested in getting an air purifier, but don't want to spend $400 to $700 on a Dyson, you don't have to: There are plenty of air purifiers for under $150, and some even clocking in under that $50 price-point.

The allure of an air purifier is that it can capture and filter microscopic allergens in the air. Indoor air pollutants can be significantly worse than outdoor pollutants, so an air purifier is ideal in the home, especially for those who have asthma-like symptoms and allergies. Some of them are even designed with a HEPA filter to trap particles as small as 0.3 microns from air passing through.

Honeywell PowerPlus True HEPA 200 sq. ft. Allergen Remover/Air Purifier

This Honeywell air purifier is HEPA-certified to capture up to 99.97% of allergens like pollen, pet dander, dust, smoke, dust mites, and debris. This will filter air every hour in a 200-square-foot room. It has four cleaning modes: germ, allergen, turbo, and general clean.

Winix D360 True HEPA 360 sq. ft. 3-Stage Air Purifier

This air purifier is certified for rooms up to 360 square feet to remove impurities in the air, like dust, pollen, pet dander, smoke, mold spores, organic chemicals, and even household odors. The auto mode on this air purifier uses smart sensors to automatically adjust the fan speed in your environment.

Honeywell True HEPA Tower Air Purifier/Allergen Remover

This standing tower filter will take up slightly less room than the two above and looks a bit sleeker if that is what you're looking for. It cleanses the air five times an hour in rooms up to 170 square feet.

This 3-in-1 purifier has a built-in UVC light to have an extra level to destroy illness-causing microorganisms (though, as we've previously noted, UV light has no impact on most of most irritants, and only affects only biological ones). This is just a hair outside of $50, but close enough to the mark. This is a good tabletop option to cover your desk area, since it only covers up to 85 square feet. This also has a washable pre-filter that will capture those larger particles.

If you're looking for a cheap, very small purifier, look no further. This isn't meant to cover a full room, just your personal space, but it does tackle dust, pollen, pet dander and odor-causing bacteria.
