LG PuriCare 360˚ HIT Air Purifier review: Good device, crowded market
The LG PuriCare 360˚ HIT Air Purifier is one of LG's latest air purifiers to hit the market, together with the Clean Booster version that boasts an adjustable fan.
Disclaimer, we do not have the advanced tools to check whether an air purifier does what it says it does, like measure the Particular Matter (PM) of the air that it filters, so do take note that this review will be based on what is seen and observed from the air purifier, much like our Xiaomi Smart Air Purifier 4 Compact review.
Being a moderate sized air purifier, the LG PuriCare 360˚ HIT (I will refer to it as HIT from now on), does exactly what it says it does, purify air. But how effective is it?
The HIT's packaging comes with the unit and a filter.
Yes, that's all there is to it. Nothing much to set up and it works directly out of the box.
You will of course need to unwrap the giant filter that comes with it and install it, but even the installation is a pretty painless process.
The HIT comes with magnetic outer plates, which is extremely easy to remove to install or replace your filter. Once the filter is installed, you can simply snap the plates back into place, no screws or fiddling required.
To switch it on, simply press the power button on the touch panel on top of the purifier.
The HIT has the purifier set to "Auto" on first use. You are able to adjust its strength by simply pressing the "Speed" button.
On the touch panel, it also has the "Sleep" and "Ioniser" buttons.
"Sleep" will set it to always be on the lowest fan speed and will also turn off the lighting on the purifier. The lighting on the unit is really bright, and a big downside is that the lighting isn't adjustable unless you turn it off using the "Sleep" mode.
The "Ioniser" button turns the ioniser on and off.
By long-pressing the "Speed" button, you are also able to turn on the Wi-Fi for the HIT, and in turn, connect it to the LG ThinQ app to control it remotely.
All available touch panel options are available on the app, with it also providing additional information on your filter's lifespan.
Now, like we mentioned earlier, we do not have the necessary tools to measure the statistics of and the minute effectiveness of the purifier.
What I can tell you is that it eliminates odour well, while also being able to leave the room feeling fresh and... purified.
The sensor on the HIT is really sensitive. Any kind of odour, including perfume and stench, could be detected 1 to 2m away.
In this testing, I left the HIT in its "Auto" state most of the time, and it usually ramped up whenever there was perfumes sprayed nearby, and also if it detected any waft of foreign smell.
Unsurprisingly, it ramps up when my cat walks by the unit, probably also detecting foreign matter in the air like cat dander and hair.
Comparing it to the Xiaomi Smart Air Purifier 4 Compact and the Hitachi EP-PZ30J, the HIT is in a league of its own. It clears up the air really fast due to its sheer size and power, not to mention its 360 degree coverage, just like it states in its name.
So yes, it does work really well as an air purifier, and if you are looking for a reliable, moderately sized one, you can't go wrong with the LG PuriCare 360˚ HIT.
The filter is supposed to last about 4,000 hours based on units with the same HEPA13 filter, or about six months if you leave it on for 24 hours every day.
Despite being basic, the LG PuriCare 360˚ HIT Air Purifier does what it is supposed to do, purify air. And it does it really well.
It also comes with the added benefit of being able to be controlled wirelessly if use the LG ThinQ app.
What's not so nice, though, is the price.
At S$399, it is still a little bit more expensive than some of its competition.
The Xiaomi Air Purifier 4 Pro retails at S$369, but can now be found anywhere between S$300 to S$350. You can also find the Sterra Breeze for about S$349. Even brands like Electrolux and Novita have equally powerful and effective air purifiers for that price.
If you are looking for cheaper alternatives, there are also a lot of them in the market at the moment.
There is also no mention of the HEPA filter's local availability for now.
But if you want long term reliability, brand name and ease of use, you cannot go wrong with the LG PuriCare 360˚ HIT Air Purifier.
It is simple, effective and also does what it is supposed to do really well.
